Answer

What happens to a meeting held in a language TrackHeros cannot write notes in?

For freelancers and consultants with a client who meets in a language outside TrackHeros's nine notes languages — Japanese, Dutch, Hindi, Turkish or any other: whether the meeting is still transcribed on Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, which language its notes come out in, and how to choose that language yourself.

A meeting held in a language TrackHeros cannot write notes in is still detected, transcribed and summarised. Only the language of the notes changes: it comes from your settings rather than from the meeting. This answer is for freelancers and consultants with a client who meets in Japanese, Dutch, Hindi, Turkish or another language outside the nine notes languages, on Google Meet or Microsoft Teams.

Which languages can the notes be written in?

Nine: English, Arabic, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Ukrainian and Indonesian. Each was read back by somebody before it shipped — the headings, the dates and the layout of the exported minutes — which is why the list is short. The spoken languages TrackHeros recognises are a much longer list, close to 100, and both lists are on the languages page.

Is the meeting still transcribed?

Yes. Nothing has to be set first. The meeting's language is worked out from the meeting itself, and a meeting that is not in English alone gets a pass over the recording by a speech model that detects the language spoken. Each line is then rendered into English on its own, keeping its speaker and timestamp, and a line that fails to translate keeps its original words rather than disappearing.

The transcript page carries one line saying where the transcript came from: "Translated to English from a conversation held in Japanese". The original wording is stored with each line but not shown. How the language is worked out, stage by stage, is on automatic language detection.

Which language are the notes written in?

The one your settings choose. The notes language can be set at four levels, and the most specific one wins:

  1. The single meeting.
  2. The recurring meeting it belongs to.
  3. The client.
  4. Your account, which is English unless you changed it.

"Same as the meeting" is a fifth choice at any of those levels. It writes the notes in the language the meeting was mostly held in, but only when that language is one of the nine and clearly the main one. For a meeting held in Japanese or Dutch it never guesses a nearby language; it passes the decision to the next level down. The meeting page says which level decided.

So with nothing changed, a meeting in Hindi gets English notes. A client set to French gets French notes from its Hindi meetings too.

Can I change the notes language after the meeting?

Yes. A meeting that has already been summarised can have its notes written again in another of the nine languages, and the exported minutes follow: PDF, Google Doc and Notion use the headings and dates of the new language, and Arabic exports read right to left. Notes in a different language from the meeting covers choosing the language deliberately.

What should I check in notes written from a translated transcript?

The names, numbers and dates. They pass through two steps — the rendering into English and the writing of the notes — and those are the words a client will quote back. Read them against the recording before the minutes go anywhere, and say at the top which language the meeting was held in. How to get notes in English, or in your own language, from a meeting in another language has the full checklist.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is a meeting in Japanese transcribed by TrackHeros?

Yes. Japanese is one of the close to 100 spoken languages TrackHeros recognises. The meeting gets a pass over the recording that works out the language spoken, and each line is rendered into English, keeping its speaker and timestamp. The transcript page says the conversation was held in Japanese.

What does "same as the meeting" do for a meeting in Dutch?

It steps aside. "Same as the meeting" only picks the meeting's language when that language is one of the nine notes languages and clearly the main one. Dutch is not, so the next setting down decides — the recurring meeting's, then the client's, then your account's, which is English unless you changed it.

Can I get the notes of a Hindi meeting in French?

Yes, if French is the notes language for that meeting, its series, its client or your account. The notes are written from the English transcript in whichever of the nine notes languages the settings choose, whatever language the meeting itself was held in.
